Simian Substitute Sites Of The Month - 2000 Archive

January 2000 - Burning Monkey Solitaire
Ditch that dull old Microsoft Solitaire that came with your PC, and get yourself a version with added monkey pictures and jokes. Downloadable free demos for PC and Mac available, as well as the option to buy the full version on line.

February 2000 - Monkey Breakfast
A bit of Shockwave silliness for you: so if nothing comes up on this page, it probably means you need to download the relevant plugin first. Or it may just be broken.

March 2000 - Bad Monkey Jr., the 1/10th Scale Remote Control Monster Truck
Mark Filipowicz has a full size 4x4 called Bad Monkey, and a 1/10 scale remote controlled model of it called Bad Monkey Jr. Full details and hundreds of pictures can be found here.

April 2000 - The Infinite Monkey Protocol Suite
Gloriously silly attempt to formalise that whole "infinite number of monkeys typing Shakespeare" thing, in the form of a lengthy academic paper.

May 2000 - Vote Monkey
This was the month when Londoners elected a new Mayor, and The Guardian newspaper got in on the act with a Java-intensive monkey-based voting program to help you choose your candidate. Foreign readers may need to be told that the election was eventually won by Ken Livingstone.

June 2000 - Enchanted Learning Software - Ten Little Monkeys
Animated nursery rhyme fun from an educational software company. But why did so many monkeys have to be hurt? Why, mummy? Why?

July 2000 - Magic Smoking Monkey Theatre
St Louis based theatre company named after one of the few childhood toys to combine the delights of animal abuse and lung cancer. Shame you don't see them any more, isn't it?

August 2000 - The Monkey's Pants (dead link)
A fan site for Buffy The Vampire Slayer, or at least it was when it was alive. The title refers to the occasion where Oz made a cookie monkey say "I mock you with my monkey pants" in a French accent, for reasons too complex to explain here.

September 2000 - Find-The-Monkey
"Perhaps you have heard of Find-The-Spam? Well, this is the same idea, only in this case, you're looking for a monkey." These are the sort of minds we're dealing with here, so beware.

October 2000 - Dumbmonkey
Funny 'n' furious weblog action with the Bay Area's leading simian blogger. Can be subject to violent mood swings (the site's been known to go offline completely during times of major emotional distress), but always entertaining and informative, with a fab collection of links too. (For example, the entry for November 3rd.)

November 2000 - The Movie Monkey
November's traditionally the month when we go movie review crazy round here, so it seemed sensible to feature another cinemagoing simian. Albeit one who hasn't updated his site since July 2000.

December 2000 - Splitzy's Planet Of The Space Monkeys
The intro says it all: "Captain Simian & the Space Monkeys is a weekly half-hour animated show about Captain Charlie Simian who, after being charged with the task of safeguarding the universe from Nebula, recruits a crew of primates and in his ship, the Primate Avenger, heads towards adventure, Earth, and hopefully bananas."
