The Travel section of this site is aiming for Carbon Neutral status, in association with Climate Care. I've used their calculator to determine the amount of CO2 emitted as a result of my air travel, and have made a donation to offset those emissions by funding reforestation and sustainable energy projects. Visit their site to see how it's done. The mouseover text on the images below tells you the amount of carbon dioxide emissions associated with that journey, and the offset donation made. It's a piddling contribution in global terms, I know: but it's something, and it's making me think seriously about reducing the amount of long-haul flying I do in the future.

Land Of The Rising Monkey Dateline: Japan, 2002. The Three Wise Monkeys of Nikko are legendary for seeing no evil, hearing no evil and speaking no evil. A good example for an australopithecine arts critic, so here's just the good stuff I saw (and ate) when The Belated Birthday Girl and I visited Japan. Updated 25/05/2002

"Monkey" Dundee Dateline: Australia, 2003. A perilous journey across the wilds of Australasia, as The Belated Birthday Girl and I explore the uncharted territories of, um, some arts venues in Melbourne and Sydney. Updated 08/06/2003

Return Of The Rising Monkey Dateline: Japan, 2004. My second visit to the Land Of The Rising Sun, as The Belated Birthday Girl and I run around Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Kagoshima, Matsuyama, Takamatsu and Hiroshima in fourteen days: an undertaking so mammoth it requires two pages to cover it. Updated 01/03/2005

Spankin' USA Dateline: America, 1999. Adventure? Excitement? A Jedi craves not these things. I do, however: so here's all the stuff I saw in the States when I wasn't watching The Phantom Menace, including Saint Etienne, Blondie, Closer, Shear Madness and Election. Updated 12/06/1999

Spank2K Dateline: London, 2000. A look at the capital's two monuments for the millennium: the Millennium Dome and the British Airways London Eye. Well, at least one of them's good. Updated 19/03/2000

La Tanière Désagréable De Fessée Le Singe Dateline: France, kinda, 1999. For a few rather silly hours on April 1st 1999, this entire site was in French as the result of some transparently bogus European Community legislation. Here's what it looked like. (Ignore the Real Audio links, they don't work any more.) Updated 01/04/1999

Year Of The Monkey Dateline: Hong Kong, 2001. Four years after the territory's return to Chinese rule, what's it like now? And how is its arts scene holding up? There's only one way to find out... Updated 01/07/2001

Year Of The Monkey 2 Dateline: Hong Kong and Macau, 2005. Back in 2001 I thought Hong Kong was my favourite place in the world. Then I went to Tokyo and it all changed. Four years on, can HK regain its place at the top of my personal charts? Read on to find out. Ooh, the suspense. Updated 01/08/2005
